Recently I have been contemplating eternal investments, verses the fleeting pleasure of momentary fixes. The wise men that followed the star in search of Jesus brought Him the most valuable gifts they possessed, gold, myrrh and frankincense, as they fell on their knees to worship Him. Maybe that is why they were considered wise.
Have you noticed that for all intensive purposes celebrating Christ’s birth has turned into a race to get the most for ourselves and less about bringing all that we have to worship and celebrate Him?
This year I am challenged before I buy a lot of “things” of no value to take the advice given in Revelations 3:18. "Here's what I want you to do: Buy your gold from me, gold that's been through the refiner's fire. Then you'll be rich. Buy your clothes from me, clothes designed in Heaven…. And buy medicine for your eyes from me so you can see, really see.”
“Pure gold put in the fire comes out of it proved pure; genuine faith put through this suffering comes out proved genuine. When Jesus wraps this all up, it's your faith, not your gold that God will have on display as evidence of His victory.” 1 Peter 1:7 MSG
After Christmas I don’t want to be left with the most toys. I want my investments to be eternal, enduring, genuine, faith, not momentary pleasures that will fade. This Christmas instead of receiving a bunch of stuff, why not join me in finding new ways to give our lives and all that we possess to honor and worship Jesus.
