“For by their own sword they did not possess the land; and their own arm did not save them, but Thy right hand, and Thine arm, and the light of Thy presence, for Thou didst favor them.” (Psalm 44:3 NAS)
Why do we try to save ourselves in our own strength? Anyone would be a fool to do anything, but seek the light of the Lord’s presence. There is no competition between the Lord’s glory that touches a life, verses our feeble attempts to carry ourselves. Yet, until we get ourselves out of the way, we won’t be able to assess all that is available through God’s presence. How often we forget that He won’t share His glory with another.
I have seen the weakness of my own strength fail, and so I am desperate for the light of His countenance to shine in my life. I want heaven to invade my world. I want the power of the Holy Spirit to accomplish in me what I can never accomplish myself. I want the Holy Spirit to transform me, so that He can love through me.
What is the key? Once coming face to face with my own frailty, and having tasted the glorious love of the Lord, I am wrecked for anything else. All we can say is, “I lay me down.”
