Have you ever been out at night in a really dark secluded area where there were no lights and felt the foreboding darkness around you? Once, I locked my kids and I out of our house in the pitch black night with no spare key. We lived in New Hampshire at the time out in the woods with the moose and bear on our property and it was pretty scary.
Yet, if I were to light a match or turn on a flashlight, suddenly the darkness would have been gone. The light has an amazing ability to pierce through the darkness.
That’s what happens when Jesus penetrates the darkness of our world, our confusion; our blindness and hardheartedness begin to dissipate. Suddenly the light comes in and overtakes the darkness surrounding us. That's what happened when the light of Christ entered my troubled life. In fact darkness can only exist when there is an absence of light. Imagine how bright the world would be if the light of Christ was shining forth from all men.
In Matthew 5:14, 16 Jesus said that we are the light of the world and we are to let our light shine before men, so that they may see our good works and glorify our Father which is in heaven.
The world needs the light in you! So often we are bashful about being the light, yet we forget that no one wants to be lost outside in the dark. Even those who are swallowed up by darkness do not desire the lack of sight they are experiencing. We all desire to see, but unless the light comes forth those in darkness will never see. Let your light shine before all men.
