This Huge God

As I sat looking out at the gigantic ocean and beach stretched out beside it, I couldn’t help but recognize God’s hugeness. God is bursting out of the latest box I have tried to contain Him in.

Francis Chan said in his book, Crazy Love, “Not being able to fully understand God is frustrating, but it is ridiculous for us to think we have the right to limit God to something we are capable of comprehending. What a stunted, insignificant god that would be.”

Just imagine if you were God and your job was to come up with a plan to create the world, the inhabitants on the earth, the Solar System, every plant, tree, animal, element etc. I have a hard time coming up with new ideas for dinner, or the next book I am working on or better yet a chapter in a book. My creativity is mosquito sized compared to God, but imagine creating everything that your eyes take in.

Not only did God Create everything in the Universe, He knows every detail about every inhabitant. He knows how many grains of sand are on the beach, how many thousands of fish are swimming in the depths of the sea, all unknown to you and me.

Isn’t it ridiculous that for a moment we would ever consider that it’s all about us? Yet how often we forget about this huge God and focus on our tiny selves in the huge scheme of things. We forget about all of the millions of souls somewhere beyond the scope of our vision, out of sight and out of reach. Yet, not for one second are they out of God’s heart, His mind, or His reach. He knows every detail about everyone of us. Now that’s a huge God.
