Have you ever considered that it is impossible to exaggerate about God? I had a glimpse of the tremendous vastness of God, when my focus was lifted far above my sore body from my strenuous son-led-workout at the gym, the current state of the economy or my life span. Instead my attention was lifted to the majesty and grandeur of God, who is enthroned in heaven with choruses of praise singing 24/7 “Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord God Almighty, who was, and is, and is to come.”
Imagine the kind of effect this revelation could have on our day to day lives, if we really got it. Imagine being so captivated with the Lord’s majesty that our focus wasn’t on the little injustices we harbor out of our own sense of entitlement, or our insatiable wanting of stuff. What if we got that it wasn’t about us, but about a life of worship that is preparing us for the day when we will never cease to proclaim, “Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord God Almighty.”
Are you like me? Do you forget sometimes that it’s not about you? I have to be reminded when I am drowning in my own sea of expectations and agendas that “…all things were created by Him and for Him.” Colossians 1:16
I forget that I was created for God’s pleasure and not my own. Let’s be honest. While the earth was made to worship Him, sadly we’ve gotten side tracked by worshiping a host of other things. Most of us couldn’t walk away from our most prized possessions without some sort of tug of war, even though they will be worthless in eternity.
I’ve come face to face with the reality of my unhealthy attachment to the things of this earth that will do me no good in heaven and I’ve decided to make some adjustments. I don’t mean legalistically setting up dos and don’ts. That never works, because the very thing we don’t want to do, we end up doing.
I am talking about consciously making the main thing the main thing and not a side dish. I am talking about pursuing more of God and less of my own interests. I am talking about laying me down with everything in me and lifting Him up. I am talking about striving to know the expanse of God, while He laughs at my short sightedness and puny suggestions of His exaggerations, while He makes my limits on life His project for expansion.
