Justice

Yesterday, to my delight I discovered an article on the web about a wonderful friend who I had lost contact with, but who greatly impacted my life as well as many others. She is a gorgeous woman with an even more beautiful heart.

You see when I was newly widowed I stumbled upon Marilyn and her ministry to widows. As a widow herself, she knew first had the Lord’s heart for my brokenness, which she demonstrated to me through her love.

Before I remarried, Marilyn opened up her home to Mark, our collective brood of kids and me, when we lost electricity during an ice storm one winter. So it was no real surprise when I read the amazing story of God’s goodness in my friend’s life.

The article told a fairytale like adventure of a couple falling in love, while serving the needs of those in Grenada after being devastated by hurricane Ivan. The most beautiful part of the story is that Marilyn and ken had positions working in Biloxi, Mississippi at different organizations that kept them away from their homes in the Carolinas. Since they had no particular church they were affiliated with to marry in, those who had also supported their relief efforts and witnessed the selfless acts of this couple, offered to throw them a wedding.

From the photographs this was not a humble potluck-church-wedding either. This was a fairy tale wedding on the Island of Topsail, where the couple was ferried by boat from the church to the reception, and a generous soirée of celebration that included a week honeymoon hideaway.

After reading this incredible story yesterday, I awoke this morning with the word justice on my tongue and a verse from Isaiah. Isaiah 58: 10 says, “And if you pour out that with which you sustain your own life for the hungry and satisfy the need of the afflicted, then shall your light rise in darkness, and your obscurity and gloom become like the noonday.” (AMP)

Webster defines justice as: the maintenance or administration of what is just by law, moral rightness in action or attitude, righteousness. To do justice is: to act or treat fairly.

What a beautiful picture of the Lord’s delight and blessing over Ken and Marilyn as they administer justice to a hurting world. In verse 8 it says, “And your righteousness will go before you.” The Lord took such pleasure in honoring this couple who administers justice to the needs of the afflicted. Truly their righteousness has gone before them. The Lord blessed them in regal style, because their heart is so in touch with what stirs His heart. Congratulations to my friend!
