Recently I was reminded of a song the Lord gave me years ago taken from the Song of Solomon that I sang at a wedding. The wedding was my sister's, the bride. The book, Song of Solomon in the Bible, tells the story of a romance between two lovers. In the story the bridegroom knocked on his beloved’s door, yet she had already gone to bed for the night. Slowly her heart was moved to respond, yet when she touched the bolt to open the door, all that was left was liquid myrrh dripping from the handle, exhibiting clear evidence of her lover’s presence. However, He had tired of waiting and was gone.
My song too retells the longing of the Bridegroom, “Oh, come away with Me, My Bride, My beautiful one, for winter is gone and the vines have ripened. Oh, don’t hide yourself from Me, but come out as a bride on her wedding day. Dance and sing with Me you are My lover, a bouquet of flowers, all glorious within. Run to Me and I will run to you. Cleave to Me and I will cleave to you.”
I believe the Lord is singing this same sentiment to His bride today, the body of Christ. If you can get past your preconceived notions, or religious parameters about how the Lord might choose to speak, I want to share with you how the Lord spoke to me through Justin Timberlake!
When I was working out one morning, the Lord slayed me with the words from a Justin Timberlake song, “Don’t be so quick to walk away, dance with me.” Immediately in the spirit I saw a dance floor where I knew the Lord was inviting me to dance with Him. As I peered into the dark room overflowing with people, I was aware of His presence singling me out, drawing and romancing me. Then I heard the words, “The air is thick…I’ve been watching you. I like the way you move, so go a head girl and do that thing you do. Let me rock your body, let me rock you till the break of day… It appears to me you like the way I move. I’ll tell you what I’m gonna do with you here to share My grove.”
The message the Lord was speaking to me, was the same message in Song of Solomon when the Bridegroom was expressing His longing for His bride. After the bride in the Song of Solomon saw that her lover had gone, she went in pursuit of him with her maidens. Timberlake’s song says, “So grab some girls and grab some more and meet me in the middle of the floor…pass to the left, sail to the right…I want to rock you!
Then the words intensified as a chorus between lovers shared intimate sentiments, like the lovers in Song of Solomon. The woman said, “Talk to me!” He said, “I can’t wait to have you in my arms...I’ll have you naked before the end of this song. Why did you come?” She said, “I came to dance with you…to romance with you.” He said, “I have been searching for love forever more.” She said, “Gotta take a chance if love is here on the floor.”
As I listened I realized that it is only through a naked and transparent relationship where oneness is shared, that we can truly connect with the Lord’s heart, and hear what He wants to reveal to ours. He is looking for those who will partner with Him in an intimate dance. He wants to ROCK HIS BODY, so we connect with Him, and feel His grove.
Amidst the backdrop of darkness, He wants to release His presence, like liquid myrrh, where the air is thick and we can be empowered to do what He’s called us to do. He wants to rock us until there is a break of day!I believe the Lord is asking us if we will take a chance, put ourselves out there, let love rouse us to get on the floor and let Him rock us? Will we turn away, or will we find Him in an intimate encounter? Will we grab others to be rocked by His radical, transforming love? The Lord wants to rock His body!
