The Eyes to See

Have you ever felt trapped against a precipice of impossibility with no visible way out? Doesn’t life sometimes present itself with limited possibilities? Maybe you are stuck in a dead-end job, a terrible recession and no possibilities for alternate employment. Maybe you can’t imagine where the money will come from for the mortgage, or the illusive answer to the insurmountable obstacle in your life. Ever been there?

A scene from the movie, The Last of the Mohicans speaks of this very thing. Cora and Hawkeye were hiding beneath a waterfall from the ensuing enemy, when Hawkeye informed Cora that he would have to leave her alone to be captured by her brutal enemy. Hawkeye knew there was no way out of the situation unless he went ahead of Cora. After one last glance and the strong admonition, "Stay alive! Whatever you do stay alive. Fight! I will find you. No matter what it takes, no matter how long, I will find you. Stay alive!" Hawkeye dove off the ledge into the water below and was gone, leaving Cora to face her worst fear.

I watched that movie for the first time when my life was also in a seemingly hopeless situation. I too faced my worst fear. After burying my husband I was left alone as a widow to raise four small children 9 to 2 years of age. The Lord spoke straight to my heart through Hawkeye’s words to Cora. There in the darkness, pressed up against the insurmountable precipice of loneliness and despair I could see no way out, yet I was being instructed to fight, to see beyond what I could see with natural eyes.

I have since come to learn that just because I can’t see the road in front of me, doesn't mean it's not there. When life seems vacant of possibility we need to remember the ability of the One who spoke the Universe into being from nothing. Nothing, is not a stumbling block for the Lord. Nothing, is matter for great substance in God’s economy. Nothing is the place of great beginnings and the realm where the rescue from all precipices exists.

Have you noticed that the Lord’s ability or supply is never the problem? All solutions exist within God, but we are challenged to see into the realm of heaven where no deficiency exists. To this end I pray that the eyes of my understanding would be opened (Ephesians 1:18) and enlarged to see God in the expanded version, wide screen-Technicolor- supernatural-perception. I want to see way past my natural vision into a heavenly realm of vast possibilities.

To get to a place we have never been before requires measures beyond what we have known. Oswald Chambers said, "Beware of going back to what you once were, when God wants you to be something that you have never been."

I don’t want to be limited by my inability to see. I want to press in and acquire supernatural sight into God’s realm to be something I've never been. Don’t you?
