Recently I was watching a clip on Sid Roth’s, Its Supernatural and the phrase popped into my head, “If you haven’t experienced it, don’t knock it!”
To all of the naysayers, mockers and scorners, Jesus said in effect, “If you haven’t experienced it, don’t knock it!”
“Since the world in all its fancy wisdom never had a clue when it came to knowing God, God in his wisdom took delight in using what the world considered dumb--preaching, of all things!-to bring those who trust him into the way of salvation.” (1 Corinthians 1:21 MSG)
“The unspiritual self, just as it is by nature, can't receive the gifts of God's Spirit. There's no capacity for them. They seem like so much silliness. Spirit can be known only by spirit--God's Spirit and our spirits in open communion.” (1 Corinthians 2:14 MSG)
In the last many years when I’ve encountered something that baffled and stretches my understanding, my prayer has been, “Lord, enlarge and enlighten my understanding.” That is what Paul instructed us to pray in Ephesians 1:18, that the eyes of our understanding would be enlightened. Because our understanding is darkened apart from the Holy Spirit, we cannot comprehend the things of God. That is why Paul prays that our understanding would be flooded with light.
The flood light came on for me one time when I saw a picture of the Lord rewiring my understanding, like a switchboard operator. He desires to rewire and renew our mind, so that we can have the enlightened mind of Christ in whose image we bear.
When you come across something that baffles your human understanding, invite God’s heavenly understanding to open your eyes to the way He sees and watch God expand your world exponentially. There is no way to grow in our understanding of who God is without experiencing increased measures of His love. Truly tasting the matchless love of God will absolutely blow your mind!
Read Paul's prayer for us concerning the love of Christ,
“I ask him to strengthen you by his Spirit--not a brute strength but a glorious inner strength-that Christ will live in you as you open the door and invite him in. And I ask him that with both feet planted firmly on love, you'll be able to take in with all Christians the extravagant dimensions of Christ's love. Reach out and experience the breadth! Test its length! Plumb the depths! Rise to the heights!” (Ephesians 3:16-18 MSG
Don't knock it until you've tried it!
