Many months ago I had a dream where I had a conversation with a woman who had received treatment from an allergy clinic to overcome the things her body reacted to negatively. The treatment for this condition was a process to change the way she thought. I knew this dream carried an important message, because so much of what we receive in life hinges on what we actually think and believe.
Jesus reiterated this very thought in John 3:3, when He told us, "… unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God." This actually means unless one is born a new, regenerated from above, he cannot experience, or perceive the kingdom of God.
This supernatural sight spoken of in John 3:3, is a choice and ongoing process. As we seek after God for greater understanding, actual transformation begins to occur that enables us to perceive the kingdom.
Sometimes this looks like the conversation I had with my son last night who asked me if he could switch out of his honors math class into a regular algebra 2 math class. My husband and I released him to make the choice he felt was right. However, as we talked and he shared how pressured and overwhelmed he felt, I told him that there was no pressure on him to be perfect. All he needed to do was his best. I prayed for God’s peace to fill him and by the end of the conversation he wadded up the release paper he’d asked me to sign, saying that he felt better about the situation.
All that had transpired within that twenty minute interval of talking was a shift in my son’s thinking. There had been no change or actual release of pressure, except what he had perceived as pressure in his own mind.
This experience confirmed to me that it is only as Christ brings revelation to lighten our world that we are able to see. As we navigate through our own perceptions and that of the worlds, we are destined for a Damascus Road encounter. Every single one of us needs the light of Christ to shine on the cobwebs of our entrenched mindsets and bring a heavenly perspective that changes the way we think.
I continually pray for fresh illumination, so that the things I have missed may become brilliantly evident, and I am able to see with renewed sight. Let’s pray along with the Apostle Paul who understood the meaning of transformation, by asking Jesus to give us the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, so that that the eyes of our understanding would be enlightened. (Ephesians 1:17-18)
