Early one morning this past week while Mark and I bonded over a cup of hot tea, he shared a story with me dating back to 1975. Sadly, during one of his junior high basketball games, Mark's friend and team mate Blair was injured. Suddenly the coach announced, “Britner, I’m sending you in because you've got moxie!”
Mark had never shared this story with me until a recent phone conversation with a school mate jogged his memory, even though he knew my book with "moxie" in the title was soon to be released.
While thinking “moxie” was decidedly a feminine term, apparently it’s appropriate for both sexes! Who knew? What is moxie you ask? Moxie is defined as having, “pep, energy, vigor, initiative, fortitude, determination, courage, know-how, expertise, and the ability to face difficulty with spirit and courage.”
Are you living a life of moxie? I’d say that Nola Ochs, the world's oldest college student, who graduated from Kansas' Fort Hays State University in 2007, at the age of 95 demonstrates absolute moxie. Clearly she's not a sissy! Isn't it time to muster up your moxie and do what you've always wanted to do?
*Soon The Igniting Hearts Website and Blog will have a name change to: Moxie Me!
