Recently while away for Spring Break, I watched the movie Kate and Leopold. The movie illustrates a great picture of the unseen world of faith.
In the movie the character Leopold was transported into the future through a portal in time and after falling in love, Kate decided to follow Leopold back to the unseen world he was from and had already returned to. In the crux of time, while the portal was open, Kate crossed a girder or bridge into this unseen world of her future.
Kate made the choice to move into the unseen realm, which is the same choice offered to us everyday. We have the choice to live by faith and move into the invisible realm or stay comfortable in only what can be seen with our natural eyes. Kate would have forfeited her destiny and her love if she had not been brave enough to walk in faith.
Abraham was offered this kind of choice too, when God told him to leave all that he had known for a land he had never seen. God gave him the great promise of things to come, but only if he was willing to move out from what he had know into the realm of faith.
We all know that “without faith it is impossible to please God.” (Hebrews 11:6) And “Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." (Hebrews 11:1)
What girder is God asking you to cross? What are you facing right now that is in the unseen distance to you, but holds great promise?
Jesus made the comment, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible” (Matthew 19:26) after telling the disciples that it was easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.
Often we clutch so tightly to the temporal elements of this world that we forfeit the weightier promise of that which is unseen. Maybe we need to be like Kate and Leopold, who looked into the unseen with eyes to see.
