Are You Recognizable?

Cognitive science has proven that the truth lies not so much in what we say we believe, but what actually rests in our unconsciousness, because 95 percent of thinking takes place in the unconscious mind. That is why sustainable change in a person’s life doesn’t transpire merely by new behavior, unless the core of what one believes is actually addressed and altered.

A trainer can teach a parrot to say anything he chooses whether or not the bird actually understands or believes what he speaks. Unfortunately many of us have been trained similarly, whether from our families of origin, or Christian environments. Often our mouth confesses one sentiment, while our heart and head are in disagreement.

Could that be the reason Jesus revealed in Matthew 7:22 that there would be many who would say they had prophesied, cast out demons and done miracles in His name, but whom He never even knew? Is Jesus saying that because many are living far from the truth of their hearts their pretense makes them unrecognizable?

Certainly Jesus didn’t miss count on those He created. He knows each of us by name, even the amount of hairs on our head; yet speaking of those who will enter the kingdom of heaven, He says He only knows those that do the will of His Father. Living in a way that disconnects us from our heart facilitates a life of pretense and falsehood, making us virtually unrecognizable, as if we were a color changing chameleon. Meaning that doing the will of the Father receives no merit when we are separated from our heart.

Until we grasp that we are loved and accepted uniquely for who we are, we will strive to mimic those we feel are on the “ins” with God, while we judge those we perceive to be on the “outs” with God. Sadly, this is prevalent in the world.

We all have a human need for acceptance, but as we recognize that we have been accepted by our heavenly Father, we will begin to openly share our heart with Him. Through that intimate fellowship we become known by the Creator of the Universe. Then there will be no mystery that conceals, or makes us unrecognizable. Our mouth and actions will begin to express what our heart believes, as the two come into alignment.

The key to moving away from pretense and falsehood is honestly getting acquainted with our heart. Being real about what we think, believe, like and dislike. We can only assess ourselves accurately when we are honest with what exists.

The next time you feel yourself comply with something you don't agree with, stop in your tracks, challenge your paradigm and take your need for acceptance to your Father in heaven who adores you.
